I Started running purely to keep fit I would attend the local park runs, running around 24 minutes.

It was there I was asked to join Manchester Harriers; I was age 47.

I noticed improvements that set me up to take on events and run more seriously. I did my first 10 km race in a time of 47 minutes.

When meeting Alex my running times were at a Steady consistently but not showing much improvement… Alex came up with a training plan that put emphasis on speed, strength and technique.

Sessions would include:

  • Strength exercises
  • Speed work eg 400 repeats
  • Holding technique

This year I have had the best cross country season.

I have PBs in:

  • 5K – 19minutes 42 sec
  • 10km 41 mins 39 sec
  • 20 mile 2hrs 30 min.

I just missed out on a PB for a marathon due to running with a fractured shoulder. I am hoping to get a PB this autumn for a half marathon…

what I have found that vastly improves my performance is Alex’s belief and the importance of holding good technique right until the end of a race even when tired.

My thoughts on the plan is that Alex clearly understands the science behind running. He gives clear precise instructions. The sessions are tough! Really pushing you above and beyond your limits. With the help of Alex’s training sessions. I’ve found that I feel stronger, I’ve improved and learnt a variety of training whichI can also do on my own.

At 57 I feel more confident running and with age I’m actually improving!
